ABOUT US

The 1st Division (Alabama) Living History Association is composed of both World War II living history reenactors and Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) members.  The reenactors represent a typical cross-section of the "Fightin' First" Infantry Division in World War Two.

"The Big Red One" is one of the oldest and most distinguished units in U.S. history, especially for their exploits during the Second World War. The First was known for its cockiness and contempt for petty discipline and regulations.  But while proud, and sometimes arrogant (members claimed the "U.S. Army consists of the First Infantry Division and ten million replacements"), this esteemed unit delivered in combat, spearheading the North Africa, Sicily, and Normandy invasions.  The Battle of the Bulge, the Hurtgen Forest, and the Rhineland-Central European campaigns are just some of their most notable successes.
